Godswill Akpabio, a former Niger Delta Affairs minister, has emerged the President of the 10th Senate.
The former Akwa Ibom State governor trounced his closest challenger, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, with 63 votes during the voting process that took place at the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday.
Mr Yari came second with 46 votes after refusing pleas to step down for Mr Akpabio, the preferred candidate of President Bola Tinubu.
The new Senate President, after being announced winner of the exercise, took his oath of office thereafter.
