After clash with prison officials, SSS rearrests Emefiele granted bail

After arraigning the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele on Tuesday, officials of the State Security Service (SSS) clashed with personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

Mr Emefiele was brought to court after months of being detained by the SSS shortly after President Bola Tinubu suspended him. He is facing a two-count charge of possessing illegal firearm and ammunition.

The court granted him bail and ordered that he be remanded in the custody of the NCS pending when he perfects his bail bond of ₦20 million and a surety.

As prison officials attempted to take the ousted CBN governor into custody, personnel of the secret police intercepted and physically assaulted a prison official, a trending video clip on social media showed.

Shortly after the brawl, NCS officials left the Justice Nicholas Oweibo’s courtroom at the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where the scuffle took place while the SSS rearrested the ousted apex bank governor.
