President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the appointment of Wura-Ola Adepoju as the substantive Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Mrs Adepoju announced the appointment to officers of the NIS during the comptroller general’s parade on Wednesday, stating that the decoration date would soon be announced.
“You may also wish to know, that through the grace of God and by the benevolence of the present government, I have been confirmed as a substantive Comptroller General of Immigration,” Mrs Adepoju said.
Mrs Adepoju being the most senior Deputy Comptroller General was appointed the acting Comptroller General when the former acting CG, Isah Jere’s tenure expired on 29 May.
Further addressing members of the NIS on Wednesday, Mrs Adepoju said some members of the top management team who took part in promotion examinations had been promoted to the ranks of deputy comptroller general.
She stated that the dates of their decoration would also be announced.
The new comptroller general advised Nigerian passport holders to ensure their passports are renewed six months before expiration to avoid desperate measures and undue pressure on both the applicants and immigration officers.
She also cautioned Nigerians against dealing with louts instead of officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
Mrs Adepoju hinted that passport applications would soon be online and applicants would no longer need to visit the NIS offices to apply for a passport.
Stakeholders have lauded the appointment of Mrs Adepoju as the first female comptroller general of the NIS from the South-West.
They commented that the appointment would encourage and motivate other female officers to put in the best in their careers to attain the peak.
