Unknown gunmen who raided the facility of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Afaka, Kaduna State, have reportedly contacted the military authorities for ransom.
The attack which occurred early Tuesday morning left two military personnel dead while a major was abducted by the armed men who reportedly operated for hours unchallenged before leaving in droves.
A statement from the academy’s public relations officer, Major Bashir Jajira, released shortly after the incident said the military were on pursuit to apprehend the criminals.
Quoting its source, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) said the search was fruitless as none of the bandits were caught.
The source added that the criminals have made contact with the authorities, demanding N200million as ransom for the abducted Major.
“They searched everywhere in the bush but couldn’t find them. They had fled away with their motorbikes,” the anonymous source said. “The attack was ridiculous. They came, teased us and left. Even the helicopter hovering in the bush could not track them.
“They have called to ask for N200million to free the Major,” the source added.
