The airstrike by the Nigerian Army in Tudun Biri village in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday night led to the death of 85 citizens, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said.
Halima Suleiman, the spokesperson of NEMA in the North-West geo-political zone, who gave the figure said to come local authorities, added that 66 others were injured during the operation said to be a mistake.
Ms Suleiman said those confirmed death were buried on Monday while a search is still ongoing in the attack said to be one of the country’s deadliest military bombing accidents.
Tinubu mourns, orders probe
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a probe after the army acknowledged that one of its drones accidentally struck the community.
“President Tinubu describes the incident as very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful, expressing indignation and grief over the tragic loss of Nigerian lives,” the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement.
