Orji Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, on Monday met with Ibrahim Babangida, former military head of state.
The move, TODAY POLITICS learnt might not be unconnected to consultation on his alleged presidential ambition in the next general election.
With the expiration of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, there have been calls for the South-East region, where Kalu hails from, to succeed the Nigerian leader who is on his second term.
The former Abia State governor is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) whom Northern Youths have vowed to support should he indicate interest in seeking the top position in the country.
Although the party is yet to zone its presidential ticket, it is widely believed it will look the way of the south and Mr Kalu is not the only southern politician scheming for the top job.
Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and a national leader of the APC is also being speculated to be interested. He is yet to say so but his actions politically point to that direction.
