Yahaya Bello re-elected for a second term in office as Kogi governor

Yahaya Bello, the state governor of Kogi State, has finally secured a second term in office.

Mr Bello who re-election on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated his close challenger, Musa Wada, candidate of the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Prof Ibrahim Umar, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria who is the returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the election, the governor secured 406,222 votes to emerge victorious while Mr Wada trailed behind with 189,704 votes.

Mr Umar made the declaration in Lokoja, the state capital on Monday morning.

Electoral violence, ballot box snatching, vote buying among others marred the exercise which began on Saturday.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Mr Bello for securing another term of four years in office.
