Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has admitted playing a role in the removal of Uche Secondus, the suspended chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Prior to his ousting, Mr Secondus was first suspended by ward executives of his party, an action upheld by the state chapter of the opposition party.
Aggrieved officials of the party, who leveraged on the suspension to demand his removal, sought and obtained a court order to that effect.
Fighting for survival, the suspended official moved to stop the elective national convention of the party legally but lost.
Admitting he played a role in Secondus’ removal, the Rivers helmsman said it became necessary to save the party from dieing.
“I have never denied of being involved in the removal of Secondus, he was not doing well so his ward first suspended him and I am glad they did that,” Wike said in an interview with BBC Pidgin. “I am not the type of governors that deny their actions. I know I have hand in his removal and I’m not afraid to say it.
“I did that because if we allow him to continue as PDP chairman, the party will die.”
