Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has listed reasons why he is fighting his successor, Governor Simi Fubara of Rivers State.
The rift between the duo worsened earlier in the week when state lawmakers attempted to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor who claimed he has committed no offense to warrant being booted out.
The intervention of President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in the dramatic events which began Sunday night has brought the tension in the state down.
Addressing a delegation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi on Wednesday, the minister denied requesting financial gratification from his former ally.
He accused the governor of hobnobbing with his enemies and attempting to take over his political structure in the state, an action he said will render him politically irrelevant.
“You cannot work, and people will begin to bring enemies; those who fought you when you were struggling for the person to be in office,” Mr Wike was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as saying. “Nobody does that.
“I am not a political ingrate but don’t touch the political structure of the state. I will not shut my eyes.”
Meanwhile, Mr Fubara said there is nothing wrong if father and son have issues.
“For our dear state, I know everybody is wondering what’s going on, what’s not going on,” the governor said when the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led a military delegation to the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital. “We are okay, there is no problem.
“If we have an internal issue, it will be resolved and everything will go back to normal.
“There is nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem, if there is any problem, but I don’t think there is anything, whatever it is, we will definitely resolve the issue,” he added.
