Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano ignored a court order barring him and his administration from reinstating Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of the state.
Mr Yusuf signed a legislation empowering him to scrap the additional four emirates created by his predecessor on Thursday afternoon, retaining Kano emirate.
Later in the evening, a trending court order surfaced online, prohibiting the Kano State Government from going ahead with the process.
But on Friday, the governor issued the reinstatement letter to the former Central Bank Governor, ignoring the order of the court.
Speaking in Hausa during the ceremony that took place at the state government house, Mr Yusuf who was visibly furious said he decided to proceed with the reinstatement because the judge gave the order from outside the country.
He vowed to report the judge to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum where the matter will be looked into.
“The person (Justice AM Liman) that issued the court order was in America but he is ordering us to stop what we are doing,” he said. “This issue of abuse I must present before the Governor’s Forum so that we can tackle it accordingly.
“We are agents of following due process, that’s why we did what we did openly before everybody. Those that are meant to maintain that rule of law must follow that also.”
