What should be done for Buhari to proscribe herdsmen – aide

The presidency has revealed what must be done for armed herdsmen to be proscribed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The pastoralists are alleged to be responsible for the unabated insecurity bedeviling the nation. Several socio-cultural groups in the country are calling for the proscription of the herdsmen given their violent crimes against their host communities.

A recent proscribing of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) resurfaced the call. The Islamic religious body is accused of terrorising Nigerians with their protests wherein they are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-zakzaky.

Several protests embarked upon by members of the IMN often turn bloody as they often clash with security operatives leaving lives lost on both sides.

The process of proscribing the Islamic group was hatched last week after a meeting between the president and security chiefs.

Weighing in, Lauretta Onochie, the president’s social media assistant advised those seeking the proscription of the pastoralists to approach the judiciary.

“Those who have been calling on Nigeria to declare the Fulani Ethnic group a terrorist tribe, should head to d courts,” Ms Onochie said in a tweet on Saturday.

The president who is from the same Fulani tribe like the herdsmen is accused of nepotism and is said to be spearheading a plot to Fulanise and Islamize the country.

The declaration of IMN members popularly known as Shiites as terrorists is the second since he took office as a democratic president.

His sledge hammer first landed on the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) a secessionist group calling for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic.
