The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it is probing the financial activities of outgoing Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha.
The claim by the commission comes days after Mr Okorocha approached the court filling two fundamentals rights enforcement suits aimed at preventing the anti-graft agency from arresting him.
The governor who was declared winner of Imo West senatorial election has not been issued his certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which claimed his declaration was made under duress.
Okorocha is accusing leaders of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), fingering Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the party, as the arrowhead behind his travails.
His ordeal started last year when he wanted his Chief of Staff and son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him in office. His wish angered members of the party who ensured Mr Nwosu did not clinch the ticket of the APC as its governorship candidate.
Nwosu refusing to back down defected to the Action Alliance (AA), a party founded by his father-in-law, contested and lost the election to Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Confirming the commission is investigating the financial activities of the outgoing governor is Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the EFCC.
Mr Magu, in an interview he granted Channels Television on Monday, said an investigation has to get to a particular level before it is let (out) to the media to avoid it being jeopardised.
“Of course, we are doing a couple of checks, we are investigating almost ‘everybody’. But it has to get to some level for us to come out to the media. If not, it will jeopardise the process of investigation,” the anti-graft boss said.
