Wanted Maina re-arrested in Niger Republic: Report

Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairperson of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), has been re-arrested in Niger Republic.

This was made known by PR Nigeria, a news platform which distributes statements for Nigerian security organisations.

The medium quoting security sources said the re-arrest made yesterday’s evening was possible due to existing mutual relationship and security agreement between the two countries – Nigeria and Niger.

The former pension boss facing 12-count charge on money laundering, instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), jumped bail, a development which led to the incarceration of his surety, Senator Ali Ndume.

Mr Ndume, however, regained freedom last week after being granted bail by the presiding judge, Okon Abang, who said he was set free on compassionate ground.

The judge also ordered the continuation of the money laundering trial in absentia. It is currently unclear as at press time, if Mr Maina had been brought back into the country for his trial.
