Twitter ready to negotiate with Nigeria over temporary ban

Micro-blogging social network, Twitter, says it is ready to negotiate with the Nigerian government to lift the temporary ban preventing users from accessing it in the country.

The federal government had last Friday announced the ban of Twitter after the giant social network deleted remarks of President Muhammadu Buhari deemed genocidal.

The next day, the ban became effective with Nigerians unable to use the social network except using Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass the restriction.

While reacting, Twitter promised to help Nigerians bypass the ban but has now said they are ready for an open negotiation with the Nigerian government headed by Mr Buhari.

“Today marks one week since Twitter was blocked in Nigeria. We have informed the Nigerian government that we are ready to meet for an open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored,” Twitter policy said on Friday. “We remain advocates for the free and #OpenInternet everywhere. #KeepitOn”
