The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says plans are underway to appeal against a court order mandating it to call off its ongoing strike spanning over seven months.
The National Industrial Court had on Wednesday ordered the academic body to suspend the industrial action embarked upon over unresolved financial disputes with the Nigerian government.
In a statement on Wednesday by the Chairman of ASUU Lagos Zone, Adelaja Odukoya, the union said it is preparing to file stay of execution while appealing against the verdict.
“Our Comrade President, Comrade Victor Osodeke, has urged members of our Great Union to remain calm as there is no cause for alarm on the back to work order delivered earlier today,” Mr Odukoya said. “Our lawyer is filing an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment. Members should remain resolute and strong. A people united can never be defeated. Solidarity without compromise.”
