Governor Godwin Obaseki has advised the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to stop engaging in financial rascality.
Mr Obaseki gave the advise while standing by his last week comments where he claimed the Buhari regime printed over N60 billion to support federal allocations shared in March.
The Edo State governor projected the government’s chronic borrowing system would result in an additional N16 trillion debt at the end of the year.
In her response, the minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed, who expressed sadness over the claim, accused the governor of peddling falsehood.
“The issue that was raised by the Edo state governor for me is very, very sad because it is not a fact,” she said Wednesday.
But further censuring the Buhari administration in a Thursday statement reproduced on his Twitter handle, Obaseki urgent the Buhari administration to take steps that will resolve the country’s economic crisis.
“Rather than play the ostrich, we urge the government to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality so as to prevent the prevailing economic challenge from degenerating further,” Mr Obaseki advised. “We believe it is imperative to approach the Nigerian project with all sense of responsibility and commitment and not play to the gallery because ultimately, time shall be the judge of us all.”
