SSS confirms arrest of Tanko-Yakasai, sacked for asking Buhari to resign, gives reason

The State Security Service (SSS) has confirmed the arrest of Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, a former aide of Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje.

Mr Tanko-Yakasai on Friday criticised President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration over rising insecurity. TODAY POLITICS reports that he was specifically reacting to the abduction of Zamfara schoolgirls, urging the Nigerian leader to be brutal on terrorists or step down from office.

Hours after the remark he was picked up by the secret police. While been detained, Mr Ganduje, who had previously suspended him for similar act, relieved him of his duty, saying he ought not work with the government he doesn’t believe in.

Confirming his arrest is Peter Afunanya, spokesman of the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS). Mr Afunanya, in a Saturday statement, said he his being probed over issues beyond his social media activities.

“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the Department of State Services,” he said, adding that, “He is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public.”
