Sowore Remains National Chairman Of AAC – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will continue to recognize Omoyele Sowore as the national chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Mr Sowore, who publishes Sahara Reporters, was suspended by some members of the opposition party after a meeting in Abuja.

Those who suspended the publisher announced Leonard Nzenwa as the acting National Chairman of the party and wrote to INEC to that effect.

Fighting back, Sowore expelled Mr Nzenwa from the party and suspended those who attended the gathering where the idea to suspend him was discussed.

But the electoral body in its response letter dated 14th May, 2019 and seen by POLITICS TIMES said Mr Sowore remained the substantive chairman of the AAC.

INEC said due process contained in the party’s constitution that of the Nigerian Constitution were not followed in removing the publisher.

“Accordingly, the commission shall continue to recognize and relate with Mr Sowore Omoyele as the substantive National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC),” the letter signed by Rose Anthony, Secretary to INEC read.
