SWAT officers conclude training, deployed to states

Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team announced as replacement of defunct police brutal unit has concluded their training.

The defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was disbanded after Nigerians through the historic #EndSARS protest made the demand over alleged violations of human rights.

Featuring on Channels Television on Friday, Muhammad Dingyadi, minister of police affairs, said the officers has been dispatched to various state commands.

“They have ended their training, and they have been posted to the state police commands that brought them for training,” Dingyadi said. “They are there with them and they are performing these functions of the SWAT.”

Critics, including the United States of America, say the new tactical team was hurriedly created without addressing root causes that led to the disband of SARS, a development they opined that might not produce the expected results.
