State governors in the South-East region have stepped in to settle a squabble between Imo West lawmaker, Rochas Okorocha and his state governor, Hope Uzodinma.
Mr Okorocha, a former governor of the state, and Mr Uzodinma have been engaged in a stand-off after the former failed to ensure his son-in-law succeeds him in office. The latter installed governor by the Supreme Court from a distant fourth position is not leaving any stone unturned in his bid to annihilate his predecessor.
Yesterday, the Imo West lawmaker broke into his property siezed by the state government under Uzodinma. The governor accused him of using state funds for personal aggrandizement while he held sway.
The development led to a clash between their supporters but was brought under control after the police came in and arrested and handcuffed former governor.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze, the governor of Ebonyi and chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Dave Umahi, said after contacts were made the both parties have agreed to a truce.
“South-east leaders are capable of settling their disputes internally instead of washing their linen in public,” Mr Umahi said, “We sue for calm among the supporters of both leaders to ensure a timely and amicable resolution of the disagreement.
“They should also shun provocative statements as we work towards restoring normalcy to the situation,” the forum’s chairman advised.
