Siege: Hiding Is Not Fear, It’s Wisdom, Melaye Speaks From Hide Out

Dino Melaye, has described his alleged hiding as wisdom instead of fear as being portrayed in some quarters.

Mr Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi West at the Senate, had his Abuja residence sealed up by the Nigeria Police.

The Senator is said to be wanted for alleged homicide he committed in July. The police said the siege was perfected after the lawmaker refused to honour its invitation.

Although Melaye claimed to be out of town when the police took over his building, the force personnel has been keeping vigil at the residence hoping to pick up the lawmaker who they believed is hiding in the building.

The Police has said the siege was not going to end until they arrest the Senator apparently reacting to calls by Bukola Saraki, Senate President, ordering them to vacate the building.

The controversial lawmaker has been in a brawl with the Police since he was named by suspects in a murder case.

Making a biblical reference, Melaye who had promised to present himself at the force headquarters this week said hiding is an act of wisdom and not cowardice.

“The Bible record prophet Elijah to be among one of the strongest prophets that lived, but he went to mount Carmel to hide when king Ahab sought him to kill him cos of the way he boldly declared the truth. There is a difference with being scared and being wise,” the lawmaker said in a tweet on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, he alleged that there were efforts to destroy and damage the building.

“Police bringing in tool boxes to break doors and vandalize my house. Police EOD truck just brought them. Media take note,” Melaye tweeted.
