The Nigerian Senate has summoned the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to appear before it next week.
Mr Adamu is expected to brief the lawmakers what the force is doing to tackle activities of kidnappers and armed bandits across the country.
The invitation is sequel to a motion moved by Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the upper legislative chamber, wherein he brought the attention of the Senate to the dead of Faye Mooney, an official of Mercy Corps Nigeria, and Matthew Oguche, her partner, at the Kajuru Castle in his state.
The duo died as a result of the exchange of fire power between the Nigeria Police and suspected armed bandits in the area.
While notifying the House, Sani said the perpetrators of the havoc have not been brought to book.
Senate President Bukola Saraki making his contribution said a “structural approach” is needed to address the security challenges confronting the country.
The top lawmaker also urged traditional rulers to help security agencies with information that will lead to the arrest of those committing the crime.
Kaduna and Zamfara states have recently witnessed a spike in criminal activities including, Kidnappings, Killings among others.
Recently, the Federal Government accused some traditional rulers of shielding those perpetuating crimes in their domain.The monarchs has denied the allegation.
