Senate probes CCT chairman over assault on security guard

The Nigerian Senate has directed its committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to probe the assault on a security guard by Umar Danladi, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The upper chamber was reacting to a petition before it brought by Clement Sagwak, whom the jurist assaulted over parking space last month.

The petition of Mr Sagwak was laid during plenary on Tuesday by Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Pleateau North) – the senatorial district to which Mr Sagwak belongs.

In his entreat, the petitioner said he was assaulted by Mr Danladi at Banex Plaza Abuja after the CCT chief parked wrongly and requested the red chamber to ensure justice is served.

Other details contained in the petition were not discussed as it was referred to the committee to probe and report back to the house in four weeks, according to Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
