Senate probes alleged assault on Abuja lady by Senator Abbo

The Nigerian Senate has constituted a committee to probe alleged assault on a lady by one of it members in Abuja.

Senator Elisha Abbo who represents Adamawa at the upper legislative chamber was recently seen in a video clip inflicting pains on a lady at an adult toys shop.

The victim, who intervened when the HIV/AIDS carrier ordered the arrest of the shop attendant on alleged insults meted out to him, received series of slap from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator said to be the youngest at the red chamber.

Although Mr Abbo confirmed the incident actually took place, he said he was in the shop to ensure justice is done to his sister who was assaulted in the building.

Reacting to the issue, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, set up a committee to look into the allegation and report back to the red chamber in two weeks.

This is sequel to a point of order raised by the Senator representing Kaduna Central,  Uba Sani, and backed by Senate Leader,  Abdullahi Yahaya; Minority Leader,  Enyinnaya Abaribe; and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

Appointing Senators Oluremi Tinubu,  Mathew Urhoghide, Stella Oduah, Dauda Aliu Jika,  Sani Musa,  and Danladi Sankara as members of the committee, the Senate President urged them to grant the parties involved fair hearing as it will be unfair to pass a judgment immediately based on the viral video clip on the social media.
