Senate gets new deputy minority leader

A replacement for Senator Emmanuel Bwacha who until his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) was the deputy minority leader at the red chamber has been named.

Mr Bwacha defected to the ruling party on Thursday leaving his position while in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vacant.

At plenary on Tuesday, Senate President Ahmad Lawan read a letter from the national secretariat of the opposition party naming Shaibu Lau as replacement.

The epistle was written by the chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, informing the upper legislative chamber that Mr Lau should step in immediately as the new deputy minority leader.
