Senate gets new Clerk as El-Ladan retires

The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has approved the retirement of Dauda Ibrahim El-Ladan from service as the clerk of the Nigerian Senate on age grounds.

The NASC, in a letter with reference number NASC/PF/69/184 addressed to Mr El-Ladan, asked him to hand over his office and other government property in his possession to the Deputy Clerk, Senate (Legislative), Isabella Ugochi Ilobah, who will take over in acting capacity.

The letter was signed on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the NASC, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi.

Despite the letter dated February 9, the former clark was seen carrying out the functions of his office on Tuesday, a situation that stunned lawmakers and caused a mild drama at the red chamber.

But on Wednesday, he stepped aside while Ms Ilobah, formally assumed duty as the acting Clerk.
