Senate embarks on two weeks recess over COVID-19

The Nigerian Senate has adjourned plenary and embarked on two weeks recess over the outbreak of Coronavirus disease in the country.

This was the resolve of lawmakers at the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday as one of the measures to curb the spread of the pandemic disease which originated from China.

The red chamber is to resume on April 7th, says Ahmad Lawan, President of the 9th Senate.

Mr Lawan said the upper legislative chamber notwithstanding the recess, would be on hand to attend to any issue of national emergency that requires its attention.

While urging the federal government to devote special funds to fight the pandemic, the top lawmaker said  the Senate Committees on Health, Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases will continue to engage the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Presidential Taskforce on Covid19 to ensure a sustained fight against the virus.
