Bukola Saraki, the President of the 8th Senate has been politically buried, Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has said.
Mr Oshiomhole stated this on Wednesday while celebrating the loss of the top lawmaker at the Saturday’s senatorial elections across the country.
Mr Saraki had lost his re-election bid to his main challenger, Ibrahim Oloriegbe, of the APC who defeated the lawmaker who ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by polling 123,808 votes against his (Saraki’s) 68, 994 votes.
The APC official while addressing State House Correspondents at the presidential villa said while the party was aiming to remove the Senate President, the people of the lawmaker decided to bury him politically.
“As much as we want to be magnanimous in victory, there are a couple of things that have happened that show that the Nigerian people know how to reward those who are extremely arrogant,” Oshiomhole said.
“People who came to the Senate with less than 100,000 votes, and began to hold the country to ransom; their own people have recalled them home.
“While we were saying that we would impeach them, their people said they would rather bury them. Politically, now, they are out. It shows the power of democracy; it is a leveller; you cannot be bigger than the people,” he said.
The lawmaker, despite alleging irregularities during the election, has conceded defeat and congratulated the winner.
Oshiomhole who had sought the help of Saraki while he was campaigning to be the chairman of the ruling party, fell out with the latter when the lawmaker dumped the APC for the PDP.
The lawmaker who enjoyed the supports of his colleagues despite political differences refused to step down from his position at the red chamber, when called upon by Oshiomhole to do so.
He also thwarted several moves by the APC to oust him and force a change of leadership at the upper chamber of the legislative arm of government.
