Reps add indirect primary clause in electoral act, pass bill again

Members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday added indirect primary clause into the amendment electoral bill rejected by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lower legislative chamber made the addition during plenary to provide political parties the option of choosing between it and direct primary.

Mr Buhari had rejected the legislation, saying in a democratic setting, parties should be allowed to choose their preferred mode of primary.

He said once concensus, indirect and direct primary modes are added he will assent to the bill without wasting time.
