Protesters block NASS gate over rejected women bills

For throwing out legislations aimed at promoting the interest of women, in the ongoing fifth altercation of the 1999 constitution, protesters have blocked the gate of the National Assembly.

The bills bordered on special seats for women in the legislature, indigeneship, citizenship and 35 per cent party leadership.

The demonstration, spearheaded by various women groups, began Wednesday morning and the protesters have vowed not to leave until the leadership of the legislature addresses them.

The protesters were barred from entering the premises of the National Assembly by security agencies as at press time.
