Presidency speaks on Ebonyi’s denial of receiving N6 billion for ranching

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu has emended his claims of Ebonyi State receiving the sum of N6 billion for establishment of cattle ranch in the state.

Mr Shehu had on Wednesday claimed four states received N24 billion for ranching in their domains.

“So far, about N24 billion has been disbursed to about four states for ranching and associated activities,” he said on Channels Television. “Yobe has been given. Ebonyi has been given and FCT has been given. More than eight other states are now being processed for this payment.”

But the state governor, Dave Umahi, through his spokesman Francis Nwaze, denied receiving such funds for the initiative largely rejected by states in the Southern part of the country. He added that his state does not have any land for such project.

But in an update on Tuesday, Mr Shehu clarified that the state government was right in its claim of not receiving the funds for ranching.

“The State Government had a different priority for which they received their own part,” he clarified. “But the source of the fund from which the four states benefited is of course the same. Had the interviewer asked for detail, this clarification will have been given in the course of the discussion.”
