Policemen arrive Lekki tollgate to stop #OccupyLekkiTollGate, #DefendLagos protests

Police officers numbering over hundred have arrived Lekki tollgate Lagos State Friday evening.

The premises where dozens were allegedly massacred last year October during the historic #EndSARS protests is expected to serve as protest venues to two rival youth groups.

On one hand is the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters who are against the decision of the Lagos State judicial panel to reopen the tollgate without submitting its findings, on the other is the #DefendLagos protesters who are on a counter mission.

Despite warnings from lawful authorities that the actions be shelved, the groups have remained defiant, vowing to go ahead with their planned demonstrations which analysts suggest might end up turning violent.

As Friday evening drew near, heavily armed police officers were sighted trooping to the Lekki tollgate obviously to ensure the peaceful protests does not hold.

According to a post made by the Rapid Response, Lagos State Police Command, on Facebook, one CSP Yinka Egbeyemi is “leading a team of police officers on a show of force to Lekki Toll Gate, Obalende, Ikoyi, Jakande Roundabout, and other areas in Eti Osa as part of efforts to deter crime as well as boost the morale of his officers in the areas”.
