The Plateau State government has re-imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following fresh killings in Yelwa Zangam community.

This is coming a week after the state government relaxed a 24-hour curfew it imposed in the council over the killing of 22 travellers passing through the area on August 15.

Over 35 persons were said to have been killed while landed properties were destroyed by the attackers who stormed the area late Tuesday evening.

In a statement by his spokesman, Makut Macham, the state governor, Simon Lalong, announced that the curfew would take effect from 4:00 p.m. on August 25 until further notice.

Mr Lalong said the proactive decision became necessary following imminent threat to lives and property within the local government area and the need to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

While warning that defaulters would be arrested, the governor appealed to citizens to comply with the directive as it will help security agencies to control the unfortunate situation and fish out the attackers and also prevent hoodlums from taking advantage to cause further mayhem and destructions.
