PDP to rent out floors of national secretariat: Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will rent out eight floors from its 11-storey building housing its national secretariat.

Iyorchia Ayu, national chairman of the party made this known on Tuesday while leading members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on a facility tour of the uncompleted 11-storey building in Abuja.

“The idea that I understand is that PDP will occupy three floors, and the rest will be commercialised to generate revenue for the party, ” Mr Ayu told newsmen. “The briefing I have is that work has actually got to finishing stages, and most of the critical components were on the ground, they have been moved to another location for safekeeping.”

“Therefore, after so many years, we have lost a lot of revenue.”

The party official who listed the components of the building to include 11 floors; two underground floors, and nine floors off the ground said the PDP “have lost a lot of revenue,” after so many years.

“As a party at Wadata House, we are challenged by lack of adequate office space,” he said. “So the party will now discuss with all stakeholders of the party and will explore the necessary avenue for completing this edifice.

“We believe that apart from the critical stakeholders of the party, we will look for other ways including advice from experts to look into commercial considerations.

“It is a building that must be completed, it must never be allowed to remain wasted as it is. So the next way forward is to explore all possible avenues to complete this building.”

The construction of the building was conceived in 2008 to address inadequate office space at the present secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Wuse Zone 5.

Lack of funds in 2014 halted the project earlier billed for completion within two and half years.
