PDP gets new acting chairman after Secondus’ suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Yemi Akinwonmi as the national chairman of the opposition party.

Mr Akinwonmi, who led a faction of the party after Uche Secondus, the national chairman of the party was suspended by a court in Rivers, will be in acting capacity.

His appointment was announced by Kola Olugbondiyan, the national publicity secretary of the PDP.

Mr Ologbondiyan said the decision to appoint the new PDP chief was reached at a closed door meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He also confirmed that the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party will be on Saturday as rescheduled.

“We will be holding our caucus and another NWC meeting tomorrow preparatory to holding our National Executive Council meeting at 12 ‘O’clock on Saturday,” he told newsmen in Abuja.
