He was tipped to replace Mohammed Adamu who was on an official visit in Imo State for on-spot assessment of damages done by unknown gunmen on Monday, when his appointment was announced by police affairs minister, Maigari Dingyadi, on the order of Mr Buhari.

Present at the traditional event are Mr Adamu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu and his colleague in the office of the Vice President, Laolu Akande.

The former police chief retired in February but was asked to continue in office for the next three months, pending the appointment of his successor.
