Ortom escapes assassination attempt, blames herdsmen

Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, on Saturday escaped assassination attempt at Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko road in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state, according to Channels Television.

Mr Ortom while speaking on the incident, alleged that his attackers were problematic herders often accused nationwide as arrowheads of insecurity.

The governor who did not elaborate more on his claims thanked his security details for repelling the attack said to have occurred at a river bank where he was on foot.

Herdsmen recently accused the governor of being behind their rejection nationwide. In the Central and Southern part of the nation, the violent pastoralists reportedly engage in criminal activities, a situation that has earned them quit notices from state and non-state actors in some areas.
