Okorocha speaks on arrest by EFCC

Rochas Okorocha, the outgoing governor of Imo State, has reacted to news of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A national daily had earlier in the day reported how the immediate past governor who handed over power yesterday was picked up by the anti-graft agency.

The news medium said the wife of the former governor alongside two of his brothers were arrested in Ogboko area of the state.

But debunking the news of his arrest, Okorocha through his special adviser on Media, Ebere Nzewuji, described the report as untrue.

“The rumour of the alleged arrest of the immediate governor, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, was sparked by his political opponents who have been fighting him even as the governor of the state,” Mr Nzewuji was quoted by Sun Newspaper to have said.

“As I speak with you, I left his Excellency at the Rochas Foundation College where he has been teaching the students,” he added.

Already, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied claims that its operatives picked up the governor.

Another national daily, Daily Post, quoting the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Tony Orilade, described the report as false.

Such report that Okorocha and wife have been arrested is fake news, disregard it,” Mr Orilade was quoted to have said.
