Okiye impeached as Edo Assembly speaker, replaced

Frank Okiye, speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (ESHA), has been impeached by lawmakers loyal to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The was impeached during plenary which held today at the state government house, Benin City.

The premises of the parliamentary arm of government is under renovation hence sittings moved to the seat of power.

The house, which has ten members, reportedly removed the speaker after nine lawmakers signed his impeachment letter.

The motion was moved by Henry Okhurobo, House Majority leader, after which Marcus Onobun, representing Esan West Constituency was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker.

The ousted lawmaker was accused of alleged financial recklessness and high-handedness.
