Obi speaks on EFCC’s invitation, denies reacting

Former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has denied reports in some quarters that he reacted to the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2019 election was reportedly invited by the anti-graft agency to appear before it on October 27 for questioning over his dealings unearthed in Pandora Papers series, a global investigation involving about 600 journalists.

In a statement by his spokesman, Valentine Obienyem, the former governor denied reports of him reacting to the invitation which he said was yet to get to him.

The opposition politician said he read about the invitation on social media like every other person.

“The said reaction quoted Obi as requesting the EFCC to make their investigations public, among other out-of-character remarks,” Mr Obienyem said. “From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him.”

“However, Obi being a law abiding Nigerian will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times,” he added.
