No plan to postpone Edo, Ondo guber elections – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted reports suggesting the electoral body is planning on postponing the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

The commission made the denial in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, on Monday.

There are reports on national dailies claiming INEC had concluded plans to postpone the governorship elections in the two states due to Coronavirus disease which is on the rise on the country.

But in his reaction, Mr Okoye said when such need arises, the commission will notify the general public.

“The commission wishes to inform the general public that no decision has been taken to postpone the Edo and Ondo governorship elections or adjust the timetable and schedule of activities of the said elections scheduled for 19th September and 10th October 2020 respectively,” the statement said.

“If and when the need arises to adjust the time table for the elections, same will be conveyed to the public in the usual manner,” it partly read.
