Nnamdi Kanu reveals what created unknown gunmen

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) has revealed what brought about unknown gunmen currently wrecking havoc across the South-East and South-South geo-political zones.

Across the two regions, security facilities and check points have come under intense attacks by the new terror group codenamed UGM on social media.

Analysts noticed the spike in criminality by UGM began after the formation of Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security outfit IPOB, although no tangible evidence has linked the attacks to the seccessionist armed group.

Mr Kanu while launching ESN late last year said it was a replica of Amotekun in the South-West geo-political zone and similar to that of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

He said their mission is to evict violent herdsmen residing in forests reserves across the former old eastern region from where they attack host communities. TODAY POLITICS observed that since the formation of the armed group, not much has been heard of herdsmen unleashing violence on residents in the regions.

Earlier in the year, ESN reportedly clashed with personnel of the Nigerian Army in Orlu, Imo State, who were killing civilians on account of searching for the camp of the armed group. The cause of the attack is still unknown as at press time although the military lost four of its men.

Since after the Orlu attack, hardly a week will pass without an attack on security facilities in the South-East and South-South regions. Last week, an attack occurred in Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom State. The military operation in the area to wipe out the criminals has displaced over 5,000 residents, the council chairman stated.

This week alone, Imo State recorded three attacks on police formations, including the force command and a correctional facility in the state. While the federal government hastily concluded without investigation that ESN was behind the attack, the state government differed, accusing opposition politicians on instigating the attacks.

Nigerians on social media have attributed these attacks to unknown gunmen which the government is yet to unravel its sponsors.

Revealing what created the monster, Mr Kanu, a fugitive tried on treasonable felony, said the brutality of security agencies gave birth to the criminal elements.

While making his claim on Twitter, he attached a photo of a military personnel submerging a citizen in a sewage obviously to drink the unpalatable waste.

“As soon as he crawled out this filthy sewage, he metamorphosed into the deadly phenomenon known as Unknown Gunmen #UGM,” the seccessionist said on Friday. “The unspeakable evil of @HQNigerianArmy & @PoliceNG created this monster that is now consuming them. The ‘see no evil, hear no evil’ brigade are accomplices.”

Last year October, Nigerians historically trooped out in protest to demand police extensive reforms and the end of its now defunct brutal squad. The protesters were later quelled by troops after state-sponsored non actors attempted to hijack the protests but failed.
