Nnamdi Kanu reacts as unknown gunmen free inmates, set ablaze vehicles in Imo

Unknown gunmen early Monday morning stormed a correctional facility in Owerri, the Imo State capital, and released a yet-to-be ascertained number of inmates.

They also attacked the police command headquarters in the state, multimedia and witnesses account on social media said. The two facilities, TODAY POLITICS, learnt are close to the Imo State government house.

While attacking the police headquarters, the attackers set ablaze vehicles parked in and around the vicinity while heavy gunfire reportedly rang for over two hours.

Reacting, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) whose security outfit (Eastern Security Network) is being suspected of being behind increased attacks on security facilities and checkpoints in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones, said if the federal government can free arrested violent herdsmen and terrorists rather than prosecute them then no one should be imprisoned.

“If Miyetti Allah terror herdsmen & other murderous #Fulani groups, including Boko Haram insurgents can be arrested, freed and rehabilitated by this neo-colonial Fulanised @NGRPresident, then no single soul deserves to be in any prison in Nigeria,” Mr Kanu tweeted Monday morning. “If you know you know! #UGM”
