As the ban on Twitter takes effect, Nigerians on the micro-blogging platform are discussing about former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr Jonathan while trending on the third place on the micro-blogging site had over 46,000 Nigerians eulogizing him for not clamping down on free speech while he held sway.
Most of them who are using Virtual Private Network (VPN) are quoting a famous remark of the then president where he claimed to be the most insulted while in office.
“l am the most abused and insulted president in the world, but when I leave office, you will remember me for the total FREEDOM you enjoyed under my government”~ Goodluck Jonathan. 2014.” one of the tweeps, @UncleAjala, tweeted Saturday morning.
“GEJ prophesy is coming to pass with what Buhari is doing in Nigeria and to Nigerians,” he added.
The indefinite ban on Twitter came two days after the social networking giant deleted a controversial remark of the Nigerian leader deemed genocidal against the South-East geo-political zone predominantly hosting Igbos, one of the major tribes in the country.
While Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, deactivated her handle on early Saturday, TODAY POLITICS observed that two presidential aides were still operating their Twitter accounts despite the ban.
While one is outside the country where the ban is not effective, the other who is in the country is obviously using a VPN to access the social network.
