Niger govt announces closure of secondary schools

The Niger State government has ordered the closure of all secondary schools in the state from March 12 to March 26.

Bandits recently abducted school children from a boarding school in the state.

A statement from the Ministry of Education signed by Information Officer, Jibrin Kodo, in Minna on Thursday, said the Commissioner, Hannatu Salihu, announced this during an emergency consultative meeting.

Ms Salihu explained that the two-week closure would enable security agencies to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of the schools.

She noted that the shutdown would provide an all-inclusive mechanism and strategies that will restore and guarantee the security and safety of students, school infrastructure, education managers, and teachers.
