NBC queries Channels Television over anti-Buhari interview with Ortom

The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has queried the management of Channels Television on why it should not be sanctioned for airing an interview critical of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The broadcast station had on Wednesday featured Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who accused Mr Buhari of attempting to Fulanise the nation through recent moves to revive grazing routes in 25 states of the federation.

While the presidency has lambasted the governor, describing him as unfit for public office, the regulatory body has queried the television station to explain why it should not be sanctioned.

In a letter dated August 24, 2021 and signed by its director-general, Balarabe Ilelah, the body gave the news medium twenty-four hours to turn in its explanation on why it should not be penalized for allegedly violating sections in the NBC Code.

Meanwhile, the anchors of the programme have reportedly being arrested by security agencies suspected to be operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) for featuring a former naval officer, Kunle Olawunmi, who alleged that sponsors of Boko Haram terrorists are in the present administration.
