N33,000 Allowance: NYSC members pay ‘thank you’ visit to Buhari

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday paid a thank you visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Buhari hosted his visitors at the presidential villa when they came to express gratitude for his administration’s recent increase of their allowances.

The NYSC members who represented their colleagues nationwide includes: Yinka Kolawole, Aisha Umar Bello, Agatha Nwakego and Tim Abasiandikan Udo.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) administration had in January increased the allowances of NYSC members serving their father land from N19,800 to N33,000.

The initiative, according to those who visited, which took effect when they least expected, has brought tears of joy to all of its members.

“You have demonstrated that you are a loving and caring father committed to the welfare of his children,” a statement from presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, quoted the NYSC members to have said to his principal.

Also, President Buhari described the scheme as a laudable initiative that needs to be sustained as it affords the opportunity for Nigerian youths to understand the country better.

“People come from far and wide, some from Victoria Island in Lagos, have not even been to Ikeja. They now find themselves in Daura and other parts of the country. Whenever I go to my town, I get in touch with members, some of them from Lagos, some from Port Harcourt,” Mr Buhari said.

“Whenever I meet General Gowon up till today, I thank him for initiating the NYSC. It is nationalist and patriotic thinking that led to the development of the scheme,” he added.
