Mohammed Confirmed Inspector General Of Police

Adamu Mohammed, acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been endorsed as the new substantive police boss.

Mr Mohammed’s appointment was ratified  during the Police Council  Meeting headed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The development was announced after the gathering on Thursday by the newly elected chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, while addressing State House correspondents.

“Police Council met this afternoon, presided by the chairman President Muhammadu Buhari. The Council looked at the records of the acting IGP who has been in the saddle since 15 of January 2019,” Mr Fayemi said.

“A cross-section of members felt that given his passionate commitment, professionalism and extensive experience, locally and internationally, his interim appointment as acting Inspector General of Police was approved and confirmed as permanent appointment by the Police Council, in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria,” the Ekiti State governor added.

Mr Adamu was appointed in the acting capacity on January 15, succeeding the former IGP, Ibrahim Idris.

President Buhari had asked Mr Idris to hand over to Mr Adamu following his retirement from service at the age of 60.

The new IGP hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State and holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography.

He enlisted into the police on February 1, 1986, as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
