The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The demand comes hours after the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu ordered the arrest of Mr Adeyemo which is yet to be enforced as at press time.
The Yoruba activist had earlier issued a vacation order to herdsmen residing in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area over rising cases of kidnapping, rape and other criminal activities traced to herders but Seyi Makinde, the state governor said the activist had no power to issue directive.
The arrival of Igboho at the area last week boosted the morale of his supporters who thereafter meeting with him attacked the cattle rearers.
Demanding his arrest, Ibrahim Jiji, the state MACBAN chairman, pledge that he and his kinsmen will remain peaceful.
“We want government to arrest Igboho now. He is not more powerful than the whole country,” Mr Jiji pleaded on Saturday.
“We want Makinde to consider us as part of his children. We also voted for him in 2019 and we want him to extend his hand of fellowship to us.
“Many of the affected people cannot recognise their family roots in the North again. In fact, many of them have not gone to their villages before. We are ready to work with Oyo State government to maintain peace and order,” he added.
But the defiant activist in a viral video clip yesterday said enough is enough to the menace of herdsmen in the area.
“You can see the way all the Yorubas and other prominent southwest leaders rose up in unison to say that you must not arrest Igboho,” he said.
“It is quite sad that we are being maltreated, killed and our sisters/daughters get raped by killer herdsmen, we can’t go to farm or stream to carry out different activities. Enough is enough,” Igboho added.
