Supporters of controversial Catholic priest, Ejike Mbaka, on Sunday, demanded the removal of Enugu Diocesan Bishop, Calistus Onaga.
A viral video clip circulating on social media and seen by TODAY POLITICS shows worshippers protesting against the shutdown of their worshipping center, with placards and branches of leaves.
Some of the Catholic faithfuls were heard chanting “No More Onaga” at the protest taking place at the Adoration premises.
The demand comes a day after Mr Onaga barred worshippers from attending religious gatherings at the Adoration Ministry spearheaded by Mr Mbaka. He said this became necessary because the outspoken cleric was deviating from the teachings of the Catholic Church.
The directive from the Bishop came after a recent disparaging remarks made by Mr Mbaka against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi.
He had described the former Anambra helmsman as a stingy fellow who refused to financially reward him for his efforts in assisting to reclaim his mandate when ousted in office as governor.
He predicted that the LP candidate will not emerge Nigeria’s president in 2023 except he visits the Adoration Ministry and apologize for refusing to donate when called upon in 2018 before the 2029 general election which saw the pair of Mr Obi and Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, who were then candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failing to oust President Muhammadu Buhari who then sought re-election.
Mr Mbaka later issued an apology after nationwide backlash greeted his outburst against the Anambra politician.
